Weight loss can be a difficult subject for many, I know because it is for me too. After working as a fitness trainer and adviser for many years, I have had my overload of answering the question to these recurring five words, “How do I lose weight”?
There are a few missing components to this mainstream equation which I believe to be just as indispensable. The answer is simple and the solution is straight forward but this will take some practice.
Years of trial and error, experience and accumulated knowledge have brought me to finally understanding what it takes to achieve optimal results, maintain a healthy fit body and mind.
If your previous attempts to get in shape and creating new healthy habits have been a failure, make sure you start implementing the following:
4 NO-BS Secrets to Lasting Weight Loss:
- Give your mind a workout
We tend to forget that change is initiated and perseveres through our mind and the muscles in our brains. Give those muscles a workout too.
With the right thoughts, you can create the right results.
Results that will last. The mind is powerful. It can often set us up with thoughts of temptation and we are human so we cave. What we need to learn is how to control the temptations. This will take practice on your part. Replace the thoughts and desire to either quit what you are changing or give into your previous unhealthy habits with new thoughts and new ideas. Exercise the brain by practicing new ways to control these thoughts by,
- Writing a daily journal. This is an amazing way to read your thoughts and work on what needs to be “fixed”. Visualization is crucial.
- Take a break throughout the day. Do not go continuously without time for mental clarity, focus and a little recharging of your thoughts. Try placing your legs up a wall for only a few minutes. This helps relax the mind and the body.
- Access what the triggers are that’s making you want to give in or quit? Is it laziness, boredom, or are you feeling neglected and “left out”? All of your friends are going out, eating pizza, drinking, and you can not because you tell yourself you are on a diet? Good news, you can enjoy life, you can have fun, you can go out. It is what you do the next day that counts. Will you continue eating pizza and junk food? Or, will you pick up where you left off?
We must learn how to use our minds to our advantage. To help us on the days we need it the most. Create positive thoughts every day. Say them out loud so you can hear them.
While coming from a place of despair, self-hate can certainly propel you into action. Long term health, ideal weight & happiness revolve around quite the contrary. You need to cultivate those self-loving vibes if you want to step into your full potential in any area of your life. This includes health and fitness. You do this by cherishing and respecting your body instead of depriving and punishing it. Movement is just like free therapy, if not better (and cheaper), take advantage of it all, explore new ways of getting active, and discover new healthy recipes.
Make time to relax, breathe, enjoy the process of change and learn from it.
Educate yourself! Make sure what you are participating is safe. If it works for you, who cares what anyone else is doing. This is learning to love you for what you can do!
No, I’m not referring to eloping or a distinct phobia of speaking, also known as “lalophobia”. I’m talking about “Living a life of purpose and excitement”!
This is essential to reaching any goal, you can design a life that authentically highlights you, shows your strengths and makes you shine!
All of the things you wanted to do in life, it’s time to honor them and actually DO them! Living a meaningful, purposeful and exciting life might be the missing piece of the puzzle for many when it comes to weight loss because so often, we tend to pass up a good workout or eat emotionally when we don’t feel motivated or good about ourselves. It’s a vicious cycle. If you cherish your needs, respect yourself- ( I’ve learned this the hard way), taking care of yourself becomes an enjoyable ritual and is no longer another task that you pretend to enjoy but really wish you could escape.
- Don’t compare yourself to others
When you are looking at making a positive change in your life, stop comparing your results to anyone.
Genetics, age, time, and environment are just a few things you must consider before you decide to tell yourself you “suck” because you did not get the same turnout as the individual that you are “competing” with.
Envision your ideal scenario and get out there and manifest it!
Stay in the present moment. Never stop believing that you are worth it! What others are doing should not matter and when you change your attitude your entire life will change.
